@msh In a similar vein, there's also RhodeCode CE. However, it's not under the Conservancy and is like #gitlab in that respect. It does have similar features though. Both are on my list of things to try

@samis ...an example of the sort of things that can become troublesome would be what happened with #openERP (called #Odoo now) when the community's needs conflicted with the corporate strategy (especially around proper forward migration capability with new major releases)
The free software license allowed for the community to create the community driven #Tryton fork which independently evolved into a compelling (and in some ways technically superior) alternative.
@samis I'm not opposed to corporate backed free software per se...it is the business model around it, specifically the "freemium" model where the sponsor's central business model relies on licensing revenue from proprietary extensions added to the free "community edition". It's not a total deal breaker but it makes me cautious.
But at least a self hosted "CE" alternative allows for the possibility of forking if the corporate sponsor becomes indifferent or even hostile to the community...
